Ballycroy National Park was established in November 1998, it is Ireland’s sixth National Park and is located on the Western seaboard in northwest Mayo. It comprises of 11,000 hectares of Atlantic blanket bog and mountainous terrain, covering a vast uninhabited and unspoilt wilderness dominated by the Nephin Beg mountain range. Between Nephin beg and Slieve Carr, at 721metres above sea level, the highest mountain in the range, lie the Scardaun Loughs.

The 48Km Bangor Trail is walk in Erris which passes through a beautiful and remote part of its countryside a larger part of the trail is off-road.
The Bangor Trail is regarded as one of the finest walks in the country passing from Newport through the Nephin Beag mountain range to Bangor.

The Erris Head Loop is a coastal 5 kilometer walk which takes in some of the spectacular scenery craved by the Atlantic Ocean from the tops of the cliffs of Erris head. The loop walk allows you to take in the scenery and wild life found in this rugged landscape. The Ceathrú Thaidhg walk has been described by Lonely Planet as “The finest sustained coastal walk in western Ireland, with a profusion of precipitous cliffs, crags, caves, chasms and islands along the remote North Mayo coast.” The walk starts in the car park of Seanscoil information centre and is a challenging 10 kilometer walk which takes in some beautiful west coast of Ireland scenery in the Barony of Erris.
